ABOUT DR ADELE EATHER

ABOUT

I am a clinical psychologist with 18 years experience across the public and private sector.  I enjoy working with adults with a broad range of concerns, but I have significant experience in the areas of persistent pain and trauma.  Alongside my private practice work, I work part-time in a multidisciplinary team assisting people manage their persistent musculoskeletal pain, which has provided opportunities to develop high level of skill  in this area.  My professional doctorate research investigated pain and traumatic stress in people with whiplash associated disorders.

I am registered with AHPRA and am a board approved supervisor.

THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

I use a range of therapeutic approaches, depending on your preferences, and what is suitable for you.

In the first 1-2 appointments I will complete a thorough assessment of your unique needs and goals, and devise a plan based on these.

This process will involve identifying areas you are struggling with, and understanding and addressing any unhelpful patterns or relationship dynamics that are keeping you stuck.  We will introduce strategies early on to assist with what you are finding difficult, as well as keeping an eye to any earlier experiences that might be relevant to how you experience every day life.  If this is the case, and you would like to, we can also work on addressing those earlier experiences to bring about lasting change.

As part of this, I have a particular interest in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), having incorporated this approach into my work over the last 5 years, as I have found it particularly effective for people with both previous trauma and persistent pain experiences.  I am a full member of the Australian EMDR Association (EMDRAA).

  • Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from The University Queensland

  • Bachelor of Science (Hons)/ Bachelor Asian Studies from The Australian National University
